Cannot Connect to Configuration DB Error – SharePoint 2010

If you come across “Cannot Connect to Configuration DB Error ” in SharePoint 2010, follow the below steps to resolve this error

1. Use “SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard” to disconnect the server from the farm.
2. Navigate to Start >All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 / 2005 > Configuration Tools >SQL Server Configuration Manager
3. Navigate to SQL Server Network Configuration > Protocol for MSSQLSERVER
4. If Named Pipes is not Enabled Right click Named Pipes and select Enable
5. Restart SQL Server
6. Join back the server to server farm with “SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard”

Note: If the installation is a stand-alone installation, then don’t need to do steps 1 & 6
